So to have a bit of intermission fun, we are going to have a contest to win tickets to Hot Rods and Heels. Hot Rods and Heels will be on May 15th at the Lakewood Theater.

The contest will work like this, everyone will get on stage and our emcee, Ms. JoJo, will give a quick run down of the dance, then everyone will start to dance. The performers will pick the winner by process of elimination, when you're tapped, your out. The last dancer standing will win the tickets!

The FABulous 70's show is going to be THIS Saturday! We can't wait for you to see the variety of routines we are presenting this weekend! We have TWO debutantes at this show! LaLa Va Luna making her debut in a duet with GlamAmour. In Claudia Carnality's debut, she is teaching us a little about getting a Texas Education. You are not going to want to miss this two ladies breaking in to the burlesque scene!
We also have a plethora of fabulous performers bring in new routines, plus some favorites from the DFW's best Burlyq Ladies! Our venue is one of the best, the Plaza Arts Theater is right off the 35 and Beltline, in Old Downtown Carrollton! This show is going to be a relaxed, fun filled evening out. Remember our event is BYOB- so you can bring your bar with you! (drink responsibly)

Audition FAQ:
Does your theme need to be 70's?- No- think of it as extra credit
Do you pay your performers? - We have 3 $50 paying slots open- they will be awarded to the 3 best routines that we see. We have several non-paid performer slots as well. These slots will get two comp tickets- which if a girl/boy was clever they could sell and thereby get "paid" for their performance.
Do you allow "wet" routines? We need to know in advance that they are "wet" so we can prep for them.
Do you allow fire? small palm flames and candles- yes- but thats all.
Are you required to have prior experience? - Heck no! We love first time performers!
Do you have to attend a dress rehearsal?- Yes, generally the Sunday before the event.
How long does the routine need to be? - as long as you can entertain us. :D
How do you want my music?- Music needs to be on a CD that you can leave with Bewitching Burlesque- that is the ONLY way we will be able to play it for the audition process.
Is the routine you audition the one that is cast for the show? Yes, no exceptions.
Can I send a link to a video of my routine? Sure! Just get your link to us before March 14th!

We have 3 paid slots avaiable plus quite a few that pay in comp tickets for the show. Bewitching Burlesque is managed by the one of the best productions teams to hit the DFW area. We offer a well produced, organized performance experience, taking care of our performers both backstage and onstage. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
We have an amazing audience who is generously supportive and makes sure our performers know how much they appreciate their hard work. We will continue to strive to bring the most entertaining local performers, both current and new -insuring our events are great evening out.

Our performers have be patient and understanding with our growing pains as an event and we are so excited and greatful that they bring their best to our stage. We will continue to work towards being THE event to work for in the DFW area in 2010.

What holiday do you celebrate and how do you celebrate it?
I'm a Christmas kind of gal. The method and schedule of celebration tends to vary from year to year, but the one constant has always been my belief that Santa sprinkles good fortune in the form of giving, happy spirits on all of us every Christmas Eve. It's up to us to hold onto that happiness for the rest of the year. And yes...like many magical things, I do believe in Santa....or the spirit of Christmas if you will. I'm just not sure he brings us material things that can be seen.

What is your favorite holiday movie or television show?
"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"! Absolute best movie for all things holiday, from decorating and wrapping presents to eating pie and finding mistletoe.

What is your favorite holiday song and who performs your favorite version?
I could listen to "Happy Christmas (War is Over)" all year round. My favorite is the original by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

What is your favorite holiday beverage, adult or otherwise?
When I was little, I always envied the "special" egg nog my parents would drink. It made them seem so jolly! Now I know why.

What is your most memorable holiday gift?
All of the ones that have been wrapped and given with love.

Are you a gift shaker?
Heck, yes! Unless I suspect by the shape that I could guess the contents. You have to leave a little surprise for opening day.

Do you rip into gifts or open them nicely so you can reuse or save the wrapping paper?
I absolutely adore the sound of ripping paper.

I think anything that may have seemed horrific at the time has been blurred by holiday lights and love. It's nice to just remember Christmas as being nice.

What holiday do you celebrate and how do you celebrate it?
Christmas.

I usually celebrate Christmas Eve with the in-laws and Christmas day with my side of the family.

When I was little, my sisters and I use to wake up at the butt-crack-of-dawn and go open our stockings and do scratch-off tickets till our parents woke up. My Pop would always make a big Polish breakfast with Kishka & rye, whip up some Bloody Mary's and then he'd sit down to pass out presents to us all. Now a days, it's us waking up in the early morning to pack up our sleeping boys then hauling them to my parents house to keep the Kishka routine alive. I love it.

What is your favorite holiday movie or television show?
That honor would definitely have to go to the 1942 classic, "Holiday Inn". The classic acts & the whole idea of a musical Inn gets me every time. Oh and I'd love to find Bing Crosby underneath my Christmas tree...

What is your favorite holiday song and who performs your favorite version?
"Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee. I listen to it all year long!

What is your favorite holiday beverage, adult or otherwise?
Whiskey Sours and Godiva Hot Chocolate!

What is your most memorable holiday gift?
My easy bake oven. I wish I still had it!

No. Just a corner-ripper.

Christmas, my family prepares a great feast to feed us for the rest of the week (no joke) and at midnight we open our presents on Christmas Eve, but that never happens all the time. Its tradition that my older sister and I plot to coax our parents into letting us open presents early.

What is your favorite holiday movie or television show?
"Scrooged" with Bill Murray...It gets me every time. :)

What is your favorite holiday song and who performs your favorite version?
"Making Christmas" from the "Nightmare Before Christmas" Soundtrack. The best version I'd have to say by far was my former Pre-K Class whenever they performed it for their parents.

What is your favorite holiday beverage, adult or otherwise?
Hot Cocoa...Spiked if you like. Kidding

What is your most memorable holiday gift?
My Ipod...It was wrapped with Lollie Bombs flyers!

Whenever I was about 6 years old I received what I had wanted from Santa, a Barbie swimming pool with lights in the pool, slide, and everything a cool pool needs. My niece who was one years old at the time completely destroyed it while I watched in horror. :( Needless to say, I had a major sharing problem after that.

I celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's, St. Patrick's, Easter, Fourth of July and Halloween. Pretty much all the calendar holidays. My favorite holidays would have to be Thanksgiving because I go to El Paso and visit all my cousins & aunts & uncles.

What is your favorite holiday movie or television show?
My favorite holiday movies are for Halloween...Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, Addams Family

What is your favorite holiday song and who performs your favorite version?
This is too hard...I love all Christmas songs but I prefer the original artists...I don't really like present day artists and their versions, they feel too pop.

What is your favorite holiday beverage, adult or otherwise?
It's not a holiday beverage but no matter what occasion I'm celebrating I'm making my famous Mexican Martini =)

What is your most memorable holiday gift?
I love getting my stocking for Three Kings Men day...My Mom fills it up with little goodies.

Nope, what if it's breakable...

What holiday do you celebrate and how do you celebrate it?
I celebrate Yule. This season for me is a time for introspection and making plans for the next year. I will dream in my garden of what to plant next year as well as thinking about personal goals- what I’d like to be able to accomplish and what seeds I need to plant to get there.

What is your favorite holiday movie or television show?
I will watch “Miracle on 34th Street” the day after Thanksgiving and a couple of times more during the holiday season. It’s one of my favorite films.

What is your favorite holiday song and who performs your favorite version?
Allison Moyet's “Coventry Carol” It’s very 80’s sounding, but hauntingly beautiful. I like the poignant reminder about sacrifices made during this season.

What is your favorite holiday beverage, adult or otherwise?
WASSAIL! I LOVE WASSAIL! I bring it to every party I attend, it’s at my house almost constantly throughout the winter season.

Are you a gift shaker?
Nope, I really enjoy anticipation.

Do you rip into gifts or open them nicely so you can reuse or save the wrapping paper?
I take a long time to unwrap, not to save on paper, but to prolong the suspense. ;)

Gifts & Garters Teams Up With Toys For Tots

I have some really exciting news to share with y'all!

When Bewitching Burlesque partnered up with Through The Looking Glass Studio to bring you Gifts & Garters, we had two clear goals in mind. The first goal was to bring DFW a Burlesque show and shopping experience like no other. Our second goal was to give back to the community.

Bewitching Burlesque and Through The Looking Glass have been very fortunate this year and we decided we wanted to share out fortune with others. In order to accomplish one of our goals, we have teamed up with Toys For Tots to collect toys for kids in need.

There will be a collection station at the door, complete with Marines (in uniform!!) to collect your generous donations.

Please bring a new, unwrapped toy when you come to the show.

The first 25 ladies who donate a toy, will receive a gift bag with goodies from ALL of the Vendors at Gifts & Garters. Ladies, these will not be your run of the mill gift bags, there will be some serious loot in those bags!

Don't worry if you can't be one of the first 25 ladies in the door, or you're not a lady, we have a deal for everyone else too. If you make a toy donation to Toys for Tots, you will receive a $5 discount on the door price of admission. Instead of $20, you get the pre-sale price of $15.

Please remember there are a lot of families in need this year. We were told by the Marines they expect the requests for help will be greater this year than in the previous years due to the economy and the current rate of unemployment.

I am also personally asking asking you to remember that kids of ALL ages need to have a happy holiday. When you're making your donation selections, please remember the tweens and teens too.

Let's work together to help the United States Marines Corps bring some holiday cheer to those who need a helping hand.

What holiday do you celebrate and how do you celebrate it?

We celebrate Festivus; the Festivus for the Rest of Us. We send out Festivus cards, decorate our house to the point of being a fire hazard, and put up a tree with ornaments we have collected over the years that have lots of memories for us.

What is your favorite holiday movie or television show?

I am always a sucker for the 24 hours of "A Christmas Story!" That movie really shows the real Christmas miracle, getting your dad to do what your mom won't.

What is your favorite holiday song and who performs your favorite version?

It is really cheesy, but I love "Same Old Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg

What is your favorite holiday beverage, adult or otherwise?

My favorite beverage ever is Diet Dr. Pepper, it is like a fine wine that enhances to flavors of everything.

What is your most memorable holiday gift?

I remember when I got my red Power Wheels Corvette when I was little and just rollin' down the street like I was the coolest kid even invented.

Are you a gift shaker?

No! I love the surprise of finding out what is in the box all at once!

Depends on the paper; my father in law is an art teacher so sometimes he hand illustrates the paper and he is an amazing artist, so I totally save and cherish those.

Care to share a holiday horror story?

When I was like 12 years old, we were at my family's house opening gifts on Christmas Eve and having dinner when all of the sudden Santa Claus burst in the door to bellow "MEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRY CHRISTMAS!" and walked around and said hi to us all and did the whole "HO HO HO" thing and then left after like a minute and a half and then showed himself out and shut the door behind him. After that my parents looked at each other and then at my grandparents, and then my uncles, and then we realized that no one had ordered this Santa and he had just showed up. My dad looked out the door and saw Santa running down the street looking at a piece of paper and the addresses on the houses on our street. Lesson learned: people will let you come into their home and touch their kids on Christmas if you are dressed like Santa Claus. They won't even look for your sleigh.

When grandma was around, we all gathered at her house and it was the only time we used the formal dining room. We would eat lots of fried food (representing the oil that led to the miracle of lights), the best fried goodness by far is the latke. Mmmmmm. We have a huge brisket, a pile of latkes, light the menorah, say some prayers, and fill our bellies before opening presents.

(While its true that we get eight night of presents as children; Jews consider a new pair of socks a present- so don't be too jealous.)

What is your favorite holiday movie or television show?

I don't have one, although my partner subjects me to "A Christmas Story" year after year. He loves it. I wish he were addicted to "It's a Wonderful Life". That's a good one.

What is your favorite holiday song and who performs your favorite version?

There's not much competition in the Channukah music industry, so I'll go with Adam Sandler's "Hanukkah Song- Version I", but actually my favorite is a Christmas song. The original "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" by Judy Garland.

What is your favorite holiday beverage, adult or otherwise?

I actually like eggnog with spiced rum added. Mmmmmmmm. Cholesterol.

What is your most memorable holiday gift?

My first cassette tape ever- Micheal Jackson's BAD

The Christians celebrate Christmas, the Jewish celebrate Hanukkah, the Pagans and Wiccans celebrate Yule. Then there is Diwali, Eid ul-Adha, and Bodhi Day for the Hindu, Muslim, and Buddhists respectively. Oh, and Kwanzaa too!

Every religion on our small planet has a winter holiday that is very significant to their worship. That point set me to thinking about how diverse a group we Burlesque performers really are, and I had a brain storm for my new series of blog posts, "Home For The Holidays".

This series will feature interviews from the cast and crew of "Gifts & Garters" asking what holiday they celebrate and how they celebrate it. You might even get a glimpse of your favorite performer as a child.

What holiday do you celebrate and how do you celebrate it?

I celebrate Christmas, and I have a HUUUGGGGEEEEE family, since my parents are separated and remarried. We do a White Elephant Christmas on my mom's side, because we literally have 57 people in the immediate family! We just love to get together and be with each other more so than gifts.

What is your favorite holiday movie or television show?

"It's a Wonderful Life" and "White Christmas". Any excuse to watch Cary Grant or Bing Crosby just makes me melt. I've been watching these since I was a kid, and I plan on continuing the tradition!

What is your favorite holiday song and who performs your favorite version?

"Santa Baby" by Eartha Kitt, her in only the white fur wrap singing is amazing!

What is your favorite holiday beverage, adult or otherwise?

I LOVE Peppermint Hot Chocolate, nomnom. I'm not big on eggnog,I find it's kinda gross. Sorry to y'all eggnog lovers out there!

What is your most memorable holiday gift?

A very dear friend of mine wrote a screenplay for me, and wrote a character in that had a lot of my mannerisms, and ever named her after me. I was extremely flattered!

Are you a gift shaker?

Nah. I'm too afraid that it might be something breakable!!

Do you rip into gifts or open them nicely so you can reuse or save the wrapping paper?

I rip! It's totally the kid in me!

Care to share a holiday horror story?

Oh lord, I was the victim of regift! I gave my best friend at the time a silver photo frame I had engraved with a sweet message from me, and she then turned around and gave it to my Mom for her birthday 3 months later! She never opened it, so she never knew until my Mom called her and very nicely explained what it said. She apologized, but we really didn't stay friends for very long.

What holiday do you celebrate and how do you celebrate it?

I celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah, because of that, my parents mixed things up a bit.

I always thought it was cool when I was little cause Hanukkah came before Christmas and we got to open some of our presents "early". I had no concept of any religious stuff, my parents didn't force that part on us thankfully.

For Hanukkah we wouldn't open a present each of the 8 nights, we'd only get to open 1 or 2 total. We would light the candles and said a basic prayer in Hebrew (which I had no idea what it meant until I was older). Then, since we didn't open a gift every night, we had a small present we would all share as a family. Sometimes it would be one of those sausage/cheese/crackers gift basket things or some gimmel (chocolate coins) with a dreidel.

We would open the rest of our presents on Christmas Eve, which apparently no one else did. My brothers and I found this out while spending Christmas with other relatives. There were many stern looks on us kids faces about breaking "tradition." In actuality, we just wanted to open them early like we usually did. On Christmas day, there were presents left for us unwrapped on our designated couches and a full stocking.

What is your favorite holiday movie or television show?

I love it when "A Christmas Story" runs all day on Christmas. I also like "Scrooged" and "A Christmas Carol" (both similar, but I like that Charles Dickens story).

What is your favorite holiday song and who performs your favorite version?

I honestly hate most Christmas music. Anything good gets overplayed. I did try out the Sufjan Stevens "Songs for Christmas" last year, it's not too bad. Its a mix of his own original songs and his version of the traditional songs. I wish there were more Hanukkah songs out there, most of them just sound depressing.

What is your favorite holiday beverage, adult or otherwise?

I love spiced cider with Tuaca.

What is your most memorable holiday gift?

One time, my older brother actually gave me a lump of coal. So I decided to turn it into a "pet rock." I drew a face, tied a string around it and walked around the house with it for at least a couple of days. I thought, "Hah! That will show him!" But I just ended up looking sillier anyhow. I think I got him back by throwing a bunch of ice on him to wake him up in the morning. Actually, that happened a lot back and forth. I think it entertained my parents so they never stopped it, I'm pretty sure they encouraged it.

Are you a gift shaker?

I'm am most definitely a gift shaker. When I was little and our dogs were puppies, they use to get into the presents and unwrap them or tear them open a little. When the puppies got older they stopped, but my parents didn't know that. heh heh heh.

Do you rip into gifts or open them nicely so you can reuse or save the wrapping paper?

I'm a ripper. It's so satisfying.

Care to share a holiday horror story?

I don't have anything that ruined the holiday, just a bunch of small funny things.

As I explained, my parents are not very traditional. It was pretty common for them to pack us all up and just take off somewhere (I appreciate it now, but it drove me crazy as a kid). One time my mom had brought a honey baked ham in a cooler for us to eat, we had been driving for awhile and then slept, so the rest of us were a bit scared of the ham. I think we ended up driving around for awhile looking for a place that was actually open. We ended up eating at Luby's.

Oh and there was the time my mom forgot where she hid half of our presents and she found them the following summer.

Audition Tips Part 5...Playing Nice

Hi everyone!

Pixie O'Kneel here with the final installment of my audition tips.

We've all heard horror stories about divas. While every lady has a "Diva Card" in her pocket, it is best not to play that card. Being nice will get you a lot farther than being a Diva will.

~Be nice to the other auditionees in all aspects of the audition process.

~Chat but don't gossip. If you get the reputation of a gossip, you might just find yourself sitting in the corner by yourself.

~Thumper's Daddy was right when he said, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.". This little mantra can really come in handy.

~Be willing to lend a helping hand. Help others with zippers, props, loan hair pins, etc. It will come back to you in the end.

~Be respectful of others and their "process". Everyone has a "process" they go through in order to prepare themselves for an audition. Some chatter like crazy, others would rather not chat and want to be left alone in order to mentally prepare themselves. And then there are those who are a combination of the two. Scope everyone out and figure out who falls into what category and go from there.

~Make introductions. Introduce yourself to the "newbies" and people you don't know. If you see some one you've seen perform at an audition, introduce yourself and tell her you saw her last show. It is a big boost to be recognized. It is also helpful to new performers to be able to make a connection. Who knows, you might make a new friend.

~Be humble. When you're given a compliment regarding your audition piece, your costume, or even your handbag, a heartfelt "thank you" is always appreciated. People will know you're genuinely grateful for their compliments.

Remember this: If you're nice to everyone, including the producers, you'll get asked back. People will say, "Oh yeah, I remember her. She was sweet and really nice, let's ask her back." And we all want to be asked back, right?

Audition Tips Part 4...Gettin' It All Together

Hey everyone, Pixie here.

I don't know how many of you know this but, I studied and performed belly dance for 10 years before I got into burlesque. I still perform as a solo performer and in the group Nasheeda Amani (aka Balady Barmaids) in the DFW area occasionally. In those 10 years, I've danced on lots of venues; a restaurant, numerous outdoor festivals, staged shows and I have even had the pleasure of performing at the Carousel Lounge in Austin.

With all that dancing there was lots of running around, different dressing rooms (or lack of), multiple costume changes and the list gets longer from here. I learned a valuable lesson from my first belly dance teacher, have a gig bag and a check list.

Gig bag? A gig bag is just that, the bag you take to your gigs. I have one certain bag I take everywhere I perform, whether it's belly dance or burlesque. It is an ugly tapestry suitcase Mr. O'Kneel found at a garage sale. I try to put everything I will need for the night in that one bag. It is so much easier than schlepping 14 different cases and tote bags around, especially if you don't have a chaperone, friend, or significant other to lend a hand.

A checklist is an invaluable tool. I don't know about you, but I get SO nervous before an audition or performance and if I didn't have that list, I'd forget everything. You can make a list, save it on your computer and just print a copy every time you're getting ready to dance. Then all you have to do is check everything off as you pack it. This way you will not have to turn around and go back to the house or make an impromptu trip to the drugstore because you realize 5 miles down the road you've forgotten something (been there, done that!).

1) Do you have any dance experience other than burlesque?

I have been dancing my whole life. My dreams growing up where to be a dancer on Broadway or a trapeze artist. I followed the former with more gusto and received a BA in Dance from the University of Colorado. I love to dance and will be dancing as long as I am on this earth.

2) What was it like to audition for a Bewitching Burlesque show?

Auditioning for Bewitching has always been a very positive experience. The April audition was the first time I had gone down to pasties ever in my life and they provided and very comfortable and supportive environment.

3) What was it like to BE in a Bewitching Burlesque show?

Being in the show was also very positive. Pixie and Glam'Amour are so very professional. They give you lots of communication prior to the show, so you are assure of what to do and where to be and what is expected of you. They ensure a drama free backstage. They create an atmosphere which gives performers the comfort and confidence they need to put on a great show. I look forward to many more!

4) What are your future Burlesque plans?

I plan on being part of burlesque as long as it will have me!

5) Tell us 3 things about yourself that people would be very surprised to know.

Three things let's see...

- If I could do or be trained in any thing else I would like to be a professional cake decorator.

-I used to compete in pageants although this might not be so surprising. I find a lot of similarities in the pageant world and the burlesque world. Burlesque is a much better fit for me.

-The Sunday after a show you will find me sitting in a pew in church. I love my church and the people there. Only a few know what I am up to the night before. I truly believe that church and burlesque are not mutually exclusive.

Meet Miss Scarlet Rose Royale

1) Do yo have any dance experience other than burlesque?

Yes, I do. I have studied belly dance for four years. I owe a lot to belly dance and to my teachers. It's taught me to be more fluid and lady-like not only when I dance, but also just "dancing" through life. I think I was a little rough around the edges in my movements before I began to study belly dance. It's made me more mindful of how I move my body. I've also taken exotic dance classes. Floor work is my favorite part, but I also love pole work. I actually have a pole permanently installed in my home. Believe me, that's an interesting conversation to have with assorted family members and friends visiting for the first time. (winks) I lose myself in the music and the movement. I love belly dance, but exotic dance and burlesque are much more "me."

2) What was it like to audition for a Bewitching Burlesque show?

I have to admit that I was a little nervous before the audition. Dancers see everything, and I do mean everything! I wasn't nervous at all thinking about being in front of a general audience, but women who have studied dance for years? Now that made me a bit nervous. Fortunately for me, the ladies in charge of Bewitching Burlesque are simply the warmest and most supportive women around. They really went out of their way to make everyone feel welcome. It was a wonderful experience. I didn't know if they would want me to be in their show, but I knew I'd get a fair shot at it.

3) What was it like to BE in a Bewitching Burlesque show?

I have had the privilege of performing in two Bewitching Burlesque shows. I have had an absolutely marvelous experience with Bewitching Burlesque! The shows were very well organized from start to finish. These ladies are pros and really know what they are doing. The venues were well chosen, clean, and had great atmospheres. I felt very safe with the bouncers around looking out for all the dancers. I wasn't nervous at all. I was having too much fun backstage just hanging out with the other performers. What a wonderful group of women! I'm sure there has to be a diva somewhere in Burlesque, but I sure didn't meet any there. The women were all so kind and supportive of one another. The audience was simply divine. Great crowds!

4) What are your future Burlesque plans?

I'm head over heels in love with Burlesque! I'm absolutely smitten. I can't even believe how much fun this is! It is a lot of practicing and hard work, but I love that about it, too. I plan on taking all of the workshops and classes I can to improve and refine my performance abilities. I hope to be around the Texas Burlesque scene for years to come.

5) Tell us 3 things about yourself that people would be very surprised to know.

~I'm a complete Anglophile. I'm obsessed with the British. I'm going to get to go to England for the first time next summer. I am so excited!

~I wear high heels to mop my kitchen floor. No joke.

~I met my husband in a dive bar. "What's a nice guy like you doing in a dump like this?"

I am trained in Vaganova style classical ballet, and performed and competed for thirteen years

2) What was it like to audition for a Bewitching Burlesque show?
All auditions are nerve wracking! Bewitching auditions are relaxed and positive. The ladies are all supportive and are more than willing to help in any way you need. As a performer that's incredibly valuable, since feedback is the only way to get better.

3) What was it like to BE in a Bewitching Burlesque show?
The shows are organized and entertaining. The girls selected styles compliment each other. There is a little bit of something for every one.

4) What have you been up to since last performed in a Bewitching Burlesque show?
If it hadn't been for Bewitching I wouldn't have begun performing! These ladies were instrumental to my debut, and since then I've had wonderful opportunities and had the pleasure of performing in many different venues with lots of talented women.

5) What are your future Burlesque plans?
To keep getting better! I hope to refine my technique and style. Maybe hit the road!

6) Tell us 3 things about yourself that people would be very surprised to know.
~When I was five years old I announced to my family when I grew up I was going to strip. (It was at this point my parents realized they had their hands full)

~I lived in a convent for a stint

~I didn't know my booty had a mind of it's own until I started performing burlesque...I guess that's more a surprise to me.

Meet Miss Bubbles Von BonBon

1) Do you have any dance experience other than burlesque?

I actually started doing jazz, tap, and ballet at age 3. I continued until my teenage years when I suddenly developed stage anxiety and just a general fear of failure. When I started doing some belly dance at home last year, it occurred to me how much I had missed performing. So...I reached the most natural conclusion for a cure for stage fright: get on a stage in sparkly clothes and dance them all off. So I do have some dance experience, but burlesque has been this wonderful re-learning of what it means to perform, to dance, and to do it all without fear.

2) What was it like to audition for a Bewitching Burlesque show?

Um...terrifying? Clearly, stage fright was a huge factor in my reasoning for leaving dance behind. So the initial thought of getting back into it terrified me. I actually considered auditioning back in March for the April Bewitching production, but I scared myself out of it. However, in May I took a role with the Fort Worth Opera's production of Dead Man Walking in an attempt to get over my stage fright. The role ended up being much more intensive than I expected (considering I did not have a singing role); so after doing full nudity at Bass Performance Hall, I was feeling much more ready. But the scary doubts lingered still. Thankfully, Black Mariah was wonderful enough to help me with some preparation for the audition. Just as fortunately, the first fellow auditionee I met was Ms. Jade Pearl, and she put me much more at ease than I would have been otherwise. That girl has got friendly and funny for days. But GlamAmour and Pixie were both incredibly supportive and not intimidating at all. After the initial fright, it was a great experience.

3) What was it like to BE in a Bewitching Burlesque show?

Wonderful! First of all, having previously taken a few classes with Ms. Ginger Valentine, I felt really lucky to have an opportunity to perform my first show in one that she was participating as well. All the girls were just so supportive. Vivienne Vermuth is of course like a lovely fairy godmother for new burl-y girls. I was so nervous right before going on stage, and then there was a little oops-y with my music. If Erin GoBraughless hadn't signaled to Glam for me, I may have just tried to dance to the wrong music I was so pins and needled! But everything worked out, and it was just an amazing experience. Glam and Pixie really know how to put on a show, and I know the whole Dallas burlesque community is incredibly fortunate to have these chickadees.

4) What are your future Burlesque plans?

Auditioning and costuming and getting better at both. I'm very much still learning who I am as a striptease artist and where that might take me. I would say that of the three shows I have performed in, each performance has been increasingly seductive...something I was rather uncomfortable with initially...so I can't wait to see where that leads. Every time I choreograph and costume a new routine, I learn more about myself as a performer. I would very much like to get to a point where my burlesque-ing can contribute to a cause. I have mad respect for Ms. Vermuth and where she is trying to go with her non-profit efforts. It's definitely a place I would like to eventually be myself.

5) Tell us 3 things about yourself that people would be very surprised to know.

Goodness...this one is tough. It's actually the reason I procrastinated on this for a few days. So much pressure—I'm not sure anything is very surprising about me. Ok. Well here's three things, but very surprising might be a stretch.

1. I am a writer. Fiction writer, specifically. Short story writer, very specifically. Basically, everything I ever do in life contributes toward this. Burlesque has been an amazing way for me to access new characters. Dancing really brings out my writing. I would have never imagined keeping a blog prior to finding my love for dance again. At this point, I believe my dancing and writing share a beautifully twisted creative co-dependency.

2. I try my hardest to be holistic in my approach to life and part of this is doing what I can to be courteous to animals. However, I'm a Texas girl, and I do freaking love steak. So I do what I can. I'm vegetarian/vegan-aspiring about eight months out of the year (never while on vacation), and I only buy vintage leather when not purchasing man-made materials. (Somehow it makes a difference...if it was already purchased, I'm not directly profiting the leather industry.) The feathers...well I just have no excuse for that. I hope the avian gods will forgive me for my transgression.

3. Even though I have yet to have the fortune of going there, I want to find a way to live inside the Museum of Modern Art. Dance and dream beneath Pollock. Make omelets beside Matisse. Talk dirty in the same room as some dirty Warhols. Art history was my focus prior to creative writing in college, and visual art is still very much my obsession and the source of my literary and performance inspiration.

Audition Tips Part 3...Closed Auditions

This time around, I want to talk about "closed auditions".

A closed audition means the auditions are closed to the public.

Keep in mind that it can be very nerve-wracking to other "auditionees" to have people they don't know at the audition, especially when auditioning for a Burlesque show. Seasoned performers may feel like they are giving a free show and debutantes could be just plain freaked out.

While everyone needs support, when you're auditioning at a closed audition, you're going to have to leave your friends at home. You can call and celebrate or commiserate when it's over.

1)Tell us about your background, like did you go to art school, and what mediums you work in aside from the pin up photography you are famous for.

I fell in love with photography at 13 when my uncle gave me an old Minolta manual camera (yes, the kind that used film). I shot friends, and the “popular kids” at school. It quickly became my identity- I was a photographer. I sort of used the camera as a way to relate to and learn about people I admired. It’s amazing the side of people that comes out when they are photographed; something changes when you are in front of (and behind) a lens.

I graduated high school and went on to Texas A & M- Commerce, where I earned a BA in photography. I graduated still convinced the whole “digital photography thing” would never catch on; I had a love for the black and white darkroom like nothing else. Now, however, I haven’t shot film or been in a darkroom in over eight years.

While the vintage community knows me for my pin-up work, I shoot everything. I do a lot of editorial portrait work for magazines, and even do some food photography. I do paint as well, though I’ve only completed five paintings in my life that I am proud of. Two even won awards and were selected for exhibitions, but I really don’t consider myself a painter at all. My mother and I own all of the paintings I’ve ever done. I know a little about lots of different mediums, because I come from a family where the arts are a really big deal. My maternal grandfather was a painter and stained glass artist, my paternal grandfather was a tailor and clothing designer, my mother is very artistic- but does it as a hobby, and my brother is a potter.

2)Where do you get the inspiration for your pin up photo shoots and how long does it take for you to see it to its fruition?

In the beginning, my work was very basic, and I relied on the classic WWI & II art for inspiration. As I fell in love with the style more and more and became comfortable with it, I began to explore ideas. I wanted to physically get dirty and use my creative energy to build sets. My first giant prop was a six foot cupcake my brother and I built in the garage out of an electrical spool, chicken wire, and paper mache. It took weeks, but the finished shot was so worth it- it is still one of my favorites! From there everything snowballed into every fantasy world I had ever lived in as a child- Alice’s Wonderland, a member of the circus, Candy Land, the list goes on and on...

I’m now looking to movies for inspiration. The Homage to Tim Burton shoot originated last Halloween, but I couldn’t figure out how to pull it off. It’s taken a full year of working it out in my head and I’m finally booking for the shoot.

3)What advice would you give to someone who is booking their first photo shoot with you?

I am really easy to talk to. If you have a crazy idea and want to bounce it off of me- shoot me an email or give me a ring- I’m betting we can make it happen. Talk to me about your concerns- chances are, I’m ready for them.

4)I am sure there are more than a few gals, myself included, who would love to book a shoot with you but, are not at ease in front of a camera, and for whom posing for pictures does not come naturally. What words of wisdom can you give us camera shy girls?

Start by having a drink, and then...

It may help to look through pin-up pose guides that you can find on the internet and in books, and practice them in front of a mirror to see which ones appeal to you, but don’t get hung up on them. These are images of you, so bring your own energy to the shoot. This process should be a lot of fun, not intimidating. Bring ideas to the table, and then trust me to give you great images.

Not everyone is a pin-up model, nor should they be. This is about shooting great images of real women and making each lady feel great about themselves. I will help you out in every area from choosing outfits to posing and make it a painless process.

This plays into a question I get all the time. “I’m uncomfortable with my (insert random body part here)”. The solution is to dress , light, and pose you in a way that reveals your strengths and masks your “weaknesses”. That is my job; you don’t have to worry about a thing…..

5)Tell us 3 things that people would be very surprised to know about you.

1.I was kicked out of public school for a month in the sixth grade for stealing the school bus.
2.When I was little, I wanted to be a lawyer, but there are plenty of those in the family already.
3.I made a pact with myself to see all 50 U.S. states before age 40. I have nine years and twelve states to go!

Audition Tips Part 2...Time Is of The Essence

Pixie O'Kneel here with Part 2 of my tips for auditions.

Another important tip is to be on time, and I'm sure this tip could be considered the biggest tip of all.

Tardiness shows a lack of respect for others and their time. It also shows that you are not reliable.

Get your directions, gas up your car, make sure you have all of your bits (costume, music, etc.) before you go. I would also suggest you have contact info on the people running the auditions just in case there is an emergency.

Allow for an extra 15-20 minutes of drive time because you never know what kind of hot mess traffic is going to be, especially in Dallas!

Audition Tips Part 1...Your Music & Auditioning by Video

Hi everyone!

The auditions for Gifts & Garters are coming up on November 5th. Here are a few suggestions to make sure you will shine like the top of the Chrysler Building at your next audition.

Music

~Put your music on a CD and bring 2 copies. Make sure you use the blank discs that say "CD-R" on the packaging.

~Have the music for your audition piece and only that music on the CD. Don't use your practice CD that is looped.

~Don't expect the place you are auditioning to have hook ups for your Ipod, or other MP3 player.

Auditioning via Video

~Make sure your pets are not in the room you are filming in. Pets are extremely unpredictable. The same thing goes for children, you never know what the little darlings are going to do, plus it's distracting.

~Have some one help you with the camera and the music. if you are able, edit the parts of you running over to start the camera and then running over to start the music out.

~Move the furniture around so it is not blocking the view of you.

~If you are not using a video link to your audition from a site such as YouTube, send a DVD and not a VHS tape.

~Make sure you are vertical on the screen and not horizontal.

~DVD vs. Video link? In my honest opinion, It is best to send a video link, that is unless you are specifically asked to send a DVD.

We are excited to announce that we are having auditions on Nov. 5th, for our Dec.5th event- Gifts and Garters!

Everyone and anyone is welcome to come out and audition, however you will need email us to reserve your time slot. We will be auditioning for 2 semi-pro positions and 3 debutante positions. Semi pro are paid slots and debutantes are unpaid. Email us for more information.

We welcome boylesque, troupes, duets and soloists. You do not have to have a holiday themed number. You do not have to go down to pasties, however we encourage you to.

Bewitching makes the performers our main concern, so you are well cared for whether you are a professional or debutant. Our audience is one of the best around, so there is every reason to perform for a BB event!

Meet The Debs...Miss Bunny Bailey

1) Do you have any dance experience other than burlesque?

Yes, dance was my first love. It was the first thing that took me out of that thing people refer to as "reality" and opened my world up. It began my journey of self-discovery and self-awareness; I learned so much about who I am without all the distractions through dance and movement. I got into dance classes at age 6 and continued through community college, but I hit a wall pretty early on in my dance life. For me dance is about freedom and a journey- a cleansing even, but traditional approaches have you taking classes where it's about doing it a certain way verses listening to what your soul and body want to do. And then there's competition, obligation, and teacher conflicts (yeah I'm not so good with "authority") - the magic is gone for me when that's what it becomes. I've waited many, many years to find a place where dance can be that amazing escape I found as a child- and what joy because I have!

2) What was it like to audition for a Bewitching Burlesque show?

Well, first I loathe auditions, so that's always gonna be part of my experience, but auditioning for the Bewitching Burlesque show is the best experience I've had! The big thing is that it's a hugely supportive environment. It's a very nerve racking thing to put yourself out there like that; with everything you've got inside you the pressure is on to try and make other people see it the way you do. But ultimately it's very clear that everyone wants to see you succeed at sharing what you've got and shine your brightest. It's very loving and makes the process so much more positive than other auditions I've gone on where they treat you're nothing special and don't acknowledge anything about the feelings you get when auditioning- most can be so cold.

3) What was it like to BE in a Bewitching Burlesque show?

Delightful! The only pressure I felt was the pressure I put on myself. It's such a difference from how many dance/art productions are ran, where there's all this tension and nothing is about you. I felt a lot of space around me and that was so wonderful. I had space to breathe, move, think, relax, laugh, everything. GlamAmour and Pixie had it handled from what I experienced and performers just got to concentrate on preparing and doing our best. The other girls in the show were great, so sweet, supportive, and enjoying themselves. I loved it!! Oh and the audience was wonderful as well, they were energetic and well behaved, true class acts themselves.

4) What have you done or what are you planning to do now that you have made your burlesque debut?

Well, I've been preparing for my burlesque debut for over 3 years so I was ready to get the show on the road. I had a number of things lined up for immediately after the show, but a surgery I had 3 days later got complicated and put a halt on those plans for a while. I will stay involved however I can until I'm healed up nice and good and then it's on! I have lots of ideas and I'm looking to perform on as many stages locally and in Austin as I can to start out. I also plan to produce my own shows and explore the varieties of ways to do burlesque. I'll also continue to do pinup modeling and I have been booked for Hot Rods and Heels 2010. Basically anything creative, loving, and forward-thinking I want to be a part of.

5) Tell us 3 things about yourself that people would be very surprised to know about you.

Well I'm a modern hippie visionary (ahem, no Birkenstocks here though m'dear) and I'm serious about changing the world. If you get me into a conversation about it I won't reveal all my top secrets to you, but I'll sure have plenty to say!

Second, I am a singer; I started around 7 and began writing songs at 10, surprisingly mature songs too. However, I have never shared this passion of mine until recently as I find it to be one of the most personal things I can share. I do plan to incorporate singing into my acts though and have a signature Bunny Bailey song that I can't wait to perform!

And last, I do not do gore- seriously, I will have a nervous breakdown and it will get very, very ugly 'til I find my center again.

1) Do you have any dance experience other than burlesque?
I have been dancing ballet, jazz, and modern since I was a kid. I studied ballet seriously from when I was 14 until I graduated college.

2) What was it like to audition for a Bewitching Burlesque show?
It was nerve wracking! I have never auditioned for a show as a solo performer before. I kept seeing all the fabulous girls before me and thought to myself, "Man, I'm not gonna make it!" Luckily, though, I did make it.

3) What was it like to BE in a Bewitching Burlesque show?
It was exhilarating, if not a little nerve wracking. Being a solo performer means more responsibility on yourself to rehearse and make sure all of your ducks are in a row. I definitely loved it though and hope to keep working with Bewitching Burlesque in the future. Everyone is so supportive and organized!

4) What have you done or what are you planning to do now that you have made your burlesque debut?
I have an upcoming show in September 19 called Nouvelle Burlesque and I hope to keep auditioning for other shows. The burly bug has bit me hard and there's no turning back now!

5) Tell us 3 things about yourself that people would be very surprised to know about you.
- I am not a girlie girl, at all.
- I love the colors pink and green.
- I am one of the most conservatively dressed people I know regarding everyday wear.

MidSummer Recap

Our first annual MidSummer Masquerade, we think was a success.

Ok, really- we're pretty sure it was a success. We had a great time, the audience had a great time, the performers - well yea, they ROCKED. There were some sassy performances, sensual and mysterious performances, surprise appearances and well, really- I guess you had to be there, we hope you were!
The costume pageant contestants, well- again- really you had to be there to see the uber macho-ness stand off between the luchador wrestler, La Chica Naturaleza, and the guy with the 2 foot Mohawk. (I'm sayin'!) The bevy of beauties competing for Most Glamorous, were indeed all the various shades of glamour and glitz. The gents, well they were quite dapper and Debonair.

Our crowned winner Most Bewitching, (pictured- photo by Naked Lens- our event photographer) was the lady Vivienne Vermouth! She set the bar really high for next year!

It was really a great night. Thanks to all who were a part of it! More tantalizing stories and pictures to come.

Known for her sassy attitude and dynamic (and sometimes destructive!) numbers, Miss Malicious is a Dallas favorite and we are thrilled to have her participate in our show!

Miss Ruby Joule is one of our fabulous headliners at our show this weekend, and we are so excited to have this lovely lady up here for our show!

Miss Ruby Joule is a native Austinite with extensive experience in dance, theatre, and film. Early training included many years of classical ballet, traditional hula, Middle Eastern, Latin, and ballroom dance. In film, she recently played a supporting role in the feature The 2 Bobs, and starred in the comedy thriller Z: A Zombie Musical. She has also appeared in countless short films and music videos. In theatre, Ruby's had roles in Travesties, Speed-the-Plow, The House of Yes, and The Cafe du Cache. Combining her love of theatre, dance, vintage glamour and kitsch, she formed The Jigglewatts burlesque troupe in 2006. Ruby has performed at countless venues such as Austin's legedary Antone's, Stubb's, Continental Club, and the historic Texas Theatre in Dallas. At the Texas Burlesque Festival in 2007, she took home the trophy for "Most Original" and was nominated for Best in Show. She will perform along with some of the best names in mondern burlesque at the Mondo Showcase at the New Orleans Burlesque Festival next month.

Costume Pageant Rules

Glam'Amour and I are WAY excited about the Costume Pageant at our Mid Summer Masquerade show on August 8th! There are lots of creative people in our community and we want y'all to not only dress to impress but, dress to EXCESS!!!

We ask only that areas that would be covered by a string bikini would be covered by non transparent fabric. Other than that, you imagination is the limit!

Does body paint count? Body paint is lovely, and when done well, a great costume – just please be sure to have non transparent fabric over areas that would be covered by a string bikini.

Do pasties count? Very large pasties are fine.

Is a merkin ok? No, we don’t want any “accidents” with tape coming unstuck.

Will I be turned away if I did not follow the rules? Yes, without a refund.

Meet The Producers Part 2

Hi Everyone!

I am one of the co-producers of Bewitching Burlesque and I also usually act as Stage Manager.

As co-producer, I help Glam'Amour with a lot of the pre-production activities, such as selecting the venue for the show, selecting performers who audition for the show, helping the vendors, and lots of other stuff that goes into planning an event.

As Stage Manager, it is my job to make sure the show runs smoothly and on time. I also direct the Panty Wranglers, and the Emcee. The Panty Wranglers and I set up and tear down the props for the performers and make sure the correct costume bits go to the correct performers.

I also made my burlesque debut at one of our shows and I will be performing again at Mid Summer Masquerade on August 8th. I am very excited about it!

Miss Ginger Valentine

Today, say hello to Ginger Valentine. Miss Valentine is no stranger to Bewitching Burlesque, having performed in a a BBR production earlier this Spring.

Ginger is a classically trained ballerina who ditched her point shoes for pasties. She is featured often in the media for her classes and performances. Miss Valentine stays busy these days by running her own burlesque school; she also contributes to several burlesque blogs (including this one), and has a very busy travel schedule ahead of her. Over the next two months, Ginger will travel to Denver, Austin, Minneapolis and New Orleans where she will perform alongside contemporary burlesque legends like Michelle L'amour and Jo "Boobs" Weldon in the Mondo Showcase.

Mark has been a fan of photography for as long as he can remember, but
when he bought his first Nikon digital SLR in 2006, it began a new
interest in documentary photography at events such as Atlanta’s
Dragon*Con, Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco, and various music and
fetish events in Dallas. In 2007 he saw his first burlesque show, and
the door was opened to a whole new world, since then, he has
photographed several of the local burlesque performances in the
Dallas/Ft Worth area.

Michelle’s love for dance started at the age of six when she began participation in ballet and tap classes. She became interested in bellydance when her mother enrolled in a bellydance class in the 70's and with her background in anthropology, the study of ethnic dance was a natural progression.

Michelle has studied the art of bellydance since early 2002, including Suhaila Salimpour technique (currently working towards her Level II Certification), Jamila Salimpour Format (Level I certified), various forms of Tribal Bellydance, and Egyptian Cabaret. She has also supplemented her knowledge of dance and movement by taking Bharata Natyam and yoga classes.

She currently teaches Tribal Fusion Bellydance in Austin, Texas. Michelle performs as a solo artist and is also a member of the bellydance collective Raks Helwa. One of her favorite venues of performance is at tattoo conventions, where she developed her signature style of incorporating the glamour, poses, and facial expressions of the pinup girls of the 40’s and 50’s into her Tribal Fusion style. In 2008, Michelle had the honor of debuting her 'Pin-up Bellydance' workshop at Tribal Fest 8 and was invited to teach again at Tribal Fest 9 and Tribal Fest 10.

Time to meet the creator of Bewitching Burlesque Revue, Glam'Amour.

Glam'Amour began Bewitching Burlesque Revue as a way to give up and coming Burlesque performers a way to get their foot in the door, making sure everyone who has the desire gets a chance to shine no matter their experience level, age, or size. Since then, she's produced three other shows, and she has two more on the way. She has built quite a name for herself and at each show we have more and more dancers at our auditions.

Glam'Amour is not just an event producer, she is also burlesque performer and has numerous performances in the DFW area under her pasties. She has been seen at Dallas Burlesque Festival, Deep Ellum Arts Festival, Diffusion, Nouvelle Burlesque Revue, and Hot Rods & Heels.

Last May, Glam'Amour received recognition for all of her hard work in the burlesque community as a dancer and producer. She was nominated by her peers and selected to win the Burlesque Darling award for showing outstanding drive, motivation, talent at the Hot Rods and Heels Festival.

Meet The Judges Part 4

He has also owned and operated the Starck Club from 1996 through 1999 and the Lizard Lounge in Austin, Houston and Miami from 1988 through 2001.

What's In A Name?

There are many jobs at a Burlesque show that don't involve taking off any clothes.

One I like to think is the coolest is what we at Bewitching Burlesque call the Panty Wrangler. There are lots of names for this job, "Pick Up Artist", "Stage Maid", and "Stage Kitten", just to name a few. The names vary region to region.

The Panty Wrangler is the person who goes behind the performers and picks up all of the stuff they leave behind. They are also part of the show, eye candy so to speak. In some shows, the P.W. even might have a bit part with the Emcee or if she (or he) has another talent like singing, juggling, or comedy they could also be asked to give the audience a peep of their hidden talent.

The job of the P.W. is not as easy as some may think it would be. A good P.W. knows that she is part of the show and needs to make picking up discarded clothing look as fun and sexy as possible. She will be required get made up and dressed up, keep her cool, not get anyone's costume bits mixed up, help the Stage Manager set up and tear down props, help to make the show run on time....All while smiling and acting like she is having the time of her life.

Some performers get their start in Burlesque as Panty Wranglers. Miss Bunny Bailey was the Panty Wrangler at our April Bewitching Burlesque show. You can see Bunny pulling panty duty at the Atomic Frolic show on July 18th, and she will be gracing the stage as a performer at Mid Summer Masquerade on August 8th.

So, you just never know, you maybe picking up stockings in one show and leaving yours behind in the next.

Hey Kitty Kats my name is Jessie….creative communications operative by day/burgeoning bombastic burlesque babe by night.

I am purrrrfectly delighted to be included in the Bewitching Burlesque Review, it will give me a chance to practice total and utter fabulosity. I am crazy madly in love with the DFW burlesque scene and it is an honor to be invited to join the judging for this event.

Debuantes at Bewitching

We know that DFW loves to be the first "in the know," and at Bewitching Burlesque- we make sure you get to see the very best new talent to hit the DFW area first - so you can be the one to say,

"Oh, yes! I remember her! We saw her months ago at Bewitching- you're right, she's awesome. So glad you finally got the chance to see her!"

Our shows have open auditions and we find some of the most creative and beautiful talent to strut, shimmmy and slide their stuff

Some of the fabulous performers that we have had grace our stage for their debuts:

Rose Darling and her sassy french stylings, made her debut on our stage and she has sky rocketed with her burlesque career since. She is a featured performer at Atomic Frolic, has been invited to perform at events in Chicago and is going to be a performer at the New Orleans Burlesque Festival after party in September!

Cora Coquette brought her tool box and so much more when she came to the Bewitching stage and she is also a featured performer at Atomic Frolic this weekend. This sweet and cheeky lady is sure to go far!

Scarlet Rose Royal bent over backwards, sideways, and other mind boggling ways to be a part of Bewitching Burlesque and she was cast in the huge hit show- Hot Rods and Heels as well as joining BB again this August.

Aviva Viola was certainly a tempting sweet treat at our last event and are we excited to have her back for our Mid Summer event and the number she has in store is just darling! We can't wait to see where she takes her creativity next!

Bunny Bailey, a fabulous cabaret dancer, joined the Bewitching Burlesque Stage team as one of sassiest panty wranglers we've ever come across at our last event. This August, she is debuting her first solo performance! Trust us, it's going to be hot!

And our debutantes of the Mid Summer Masquerade: Bubbles Von Bon Bon, Jade Pearl and Bunny Bailey are gonna put some starch in your collar! If you want to be the first to be in the know of up and coming Burlesque Performers, Bewitching Burlesque is the event to see!

Miss Black Mariah

Our show is growing closer everyday! For those of you burlesque show virgins out there who may not be familiar with some of our veteran performers, say hello to the beautifully salacious Black Mariah.

Black Mariah is no newcomer to the burlesque scene. Having performed originally in Knoxville, Tenn. with White Lightning' Burlesque she moved here a few years ago and joined the Lollie Bombs, one of the first burlesque troupes in the DFW area. She also works as a soloist and you can catch her this Saturday in Atomic Frolic. Black Mariah has been featured in Pin Curl Magazine and also modeled for Dallas Dr. Sketchy. Her strong presence on stage always keeps the crowds coming back for more. She is one of our featured performers in our next show, and you don't want to miss her beautiful round...eyes ;)

Meet The Judges Part 2

Jennifer of Jupiter Moon 3 is a San Antonio-based fashion and costume designer, specializing in corsets.

Jennifer majored in fine arts in college, attending the California College of the Arts in the bay area of California. She also studied costume and fashion design at a community college in Oakland, and studied the history of costumes in her own time.

Corset making started as a hobby; Jennifer made costumes and corsets for herself and friends, and when interest in her craft grew, Jennifer started her own business, Jupiter Moon 3.

Jennifer creates custom made to measure corsets in all forms, from casual to lingerie, formal wear to costumes, overbust and underbust, for almost any price range.

In addition to corsets, Jennifer designs hats, bras, bustles, skirts of all kinds, and more. With the recent revival of the art of Burlesque, she has been able to explore more with over the top elaborate costumes, over indulging her designs with crystals, silks, bead work, and feathers, in the best way possible.

Just what do we mean by "Dress to Excess" at our Mid Summer Masquerade? We know our community loves to dress to the nines when they are just going out for the grocery's (you never know who you'll run in to, right?) so we want you all to pull out the stops and do what you've wanted to do and Dress to Excess!

Our costume pageant is more than just a costume *contest* it's a DARE- to give yourself permission to go as crazy as you want to and dip in to your creative well as deep as it goes.

(We only ask that you cover any areas that would be covered by a string bikini. Gotta stay on the right side of the line with the law.)

Our judges have four different categories to hand out the awards.

Most Glamorous: Female/Feminine- doesn't mean you are female- just that you define curves, grace and are dressed to Excess in glamorous, sensual beauty.

Most Debonair: Male/Masculine- does not mean that you are male, just in a masculine costume and dressed to Excess with your "my macho" and yes, you can be macho in a skirt- we've seen it...and drooled about it.

Most Outrageous: creative, comedic, crazy or just... odd... we love the odd....

Most Bewitching: The judges favorite costume of the evening. The crowed title of the evening.

Do you have to dress in a costume to attend the event? No! We welcome voyeurs too! What's the point of dressing to excess, if there's no one to appreciate it! Got questions? Just drop us a line at Bewitchingburlesque at gmail dot com.

Today, say Hello to Miss Rocio Vielma

Rocio Vielma was introduced to the art world since early age. She began painting at 8 then joined a Conservatory at 14 to study Contemporary Dance, in which she followed Martha Graham's Technique. Having always had an affinity for all art, Ro(as many of her friends call her) found herself doing peers makeup at their school performances, and it was at that point when decided that would become her career someday.

It was not until 2003 when she joined cosmetology school for the only purpose to become a Hair and Makeup Artist , to later found VI-VE makeup in 2005 and become a freelancer. Today she is represented by The Campbell Agency in Dallas and recently awarded the best Hair and Makeup Artist at the Hot Rods And Heels annual event.

Glam'Amour and I had a shopping adventure this morning. We picked up the crown and scepter for the "Most Bewitching" prize in the costume pageant at our Mid Summer Masquerade on August 8th.

I can't wait to see all of the fab costumes I know we are going to see and boy-howdy, I don't envy our judges one bit!

Audition Results are IN

Pixie and I are grateful to those who took the time to go all out and knock our garters off with their dazzling routines. Between video submissions and the live auditions we had lots of ladies to choose from.

Boy-howdy, the caliber of performance in the Lone Star State just keeps getting better and better. It was such a tough decision – we only had 4 open positions for the event and if we could have squeezed in a few more into the line up (with out risking going over on our venue rental) we would have faster than you can say "bump and grind.

Those who auditioned were: Zamra, Bubbles Von Bon Bon, Bunny Bailey, Vivienne Vermuth, Jade Pearl, Arceneaux, Aviva Viola, LoLo Lawless and Scarlett Rose Royale.

From this fine group we cast: Bubbles Von BonBon, Bunny Bailey, Jade Pearl and Aviva Voila. We are also excited to have Arceneaux and Scarlet Rose Royal join our stage team as a panty wranglers.

Our next auditions will be November 5 for our collaborative event with Through the Looking Glass Studio- “Gifts and Garters” with a show date of December 5.

Burlesque Auditions for Mid Summer Masquerade

Did you know that Bewitching Burlesque Revue just loves to uncover new talent? Many performers have debuted on our stage. Rose Darling debuted as a soloist earlier this year and since has been a finalist for the "One to Watch" award at Hot Rods and Heels and she will be performing in Chicago in August. Cora Coquette, another debutante from our show in April has been asked to perform in La Divina Burlesque's Atomic Frolic at The Lakewood Theater.

So, think you have what it takes?

We are looking for new performers for our next event Aug.8th- a Mid Summer Masquerade! All are welcome.

In person auditions for this event are:

Bewitching Burlesque is excited to announce the First Annual Mid Summer Masquerade Event Aug. 8 at 8 p.m at the Plaza Arts Center in Carrollton. This Burlesque revue and costume pageant will showcase the some of the best in Texas burlesque, unique vendors and feature a stunning costume pageant.
Awards for costumes include: “Most Outrageous,” “Most Glamorous,” “Most Debonair,” “Crowd Favorite” and the crowned title: “Most Bewitching”
